Personal Project - Fernie, BC

Personal projects are an excellent way for a photographer to hit the 'reset' button in their creative brain. The more artists I meet who focus primarily on commissioned or commercial work, usually hit a point where they realize their work is starting to look dull, redundant, or as an artist they are simply uninspired. By taking on a personal project, the artist is suddenly enlightened, inspired, and it's always fun to see what they come up with. Below is a series of photos I chose from a personal project by Gabe Rogel. While spending time in Fernie, BC, Gabe explained how uninspired he felt due to marginal snow conditions, so he decided to go behind the scenes and see what he could find. After a few conversations with guys in the repair shop and a lifty, he had an all access pass to shoot without limitation. The end result was drastically different from what you typically see from Gabe, and for me, it was refreshing to see his editorial and borderline abstract perspective on the small mountain resort.
